Prince Naseem is at the top of his profession and is not about to distance himself from his adoring public. Lifebyte tapped into his wicked wisdom.

Our brain has evidently overlooked the fact that we're within jabbing range of the featherweight champion of the world. Because a mere ten minutes after sitting down with the darkly brooding Prince Naseem, lifebyte hears itself utter the following: 'Call yourself a champion? I'm gonna knock you down on your little arse. Hope you like the taste of your own blood, shorty.'

We're only asking to see how he'd respond to such a taunt but it's still a relief to see his face break into a broad grin. 'If you said that to me before a fight, I'd simply say, "I admire your guts for talking like that but you better think what you're going to say to the world after the fight. After I've beaten you up and knocked you out . You're not gonna look so cocky then, pretty boy." That's what I always say – it never fails to plant a seed of doubt in their mind.'

Move on to the subject of politics in boxing and once again Naz doesn't pull his punches. 'There is so much that should be changed in boxing,' he says, the smile disappearing from his face for the first time. 'The politics are just crazy – there are just too many belts , promoters and different governing bodies. It's ruining the sport because all it means is that the best fighters don't ever get to fight each other. Like Tyson should be fighting Lewis but because both fighters are with different networks, I can't see it ever happening. It's why I gave up one of my belts. Having a belt means you have to fight people that aren't necessarily the main contenders. I want to fight the best – it's as simple as that. I still want to prove that I'm the best fighter of my generation and to do that I need to fight the best challengers . I don't need a belt to prove that I'm the best. I tell you, the belt needs me more than I need the belt.'
