Half-pipes, 70 metre jumps and booze made it impossible to get bored stupid at the fifth Board-X festival. And despite the rain it continued its reign as Britain's top snowboard bash. click here

Whether you knew your face shots from your leashes, Board-X 2000 catered for a wide range of tastes and lifestyles. The 70-metre high Big Air jump, covered with 350 tons of snow, towered over the whole site and the pro-boarders phenomenal rides down it justified its centre-piece status.

But one of the of the best things about Board-X 2000 was the starter slope next to the big air jump. Numerous people took their first tentative slides over the weekend; this sort of access to board and slope is rare in the UK, as testified by the manic grins of the newly converted. For the seasoned boarder there was a veritable feast of ride-related gear in the (covered) retail and bar mini-complex.

As well as great offers from the best names in snowboarding, there were opportunities to book fantastic holidays (including to Canada's snowboarding mecca, Whistler) tailored to your specific snow-sporting needs on some of the most breathtaking peaks in Europe and the rest of the world.

Such is the diversity of interest amongst exhibitor and visitor alike, the undercover part of the festival contained a rather tidy half-pipe for the skate conscious public.

And even the awful weather couldn't detract from another successful year in the life of the Board-X festival. Hundreds more have decided to take the financial and physical plunge and get into snowboarding for real. In fact the damp conditions around Big Air illustrated, by contrast, the enjoyment of fresh, crisp mountain snow, even if the flakes were a little enhanced.
