Snowboarding is growing faster than an over-fed
child and the annual convention for riders and exhibitors
is bound to see more weight added to the existing
body of boardists. |

Board-X celebrates the fifth
anniversary of this hugely popular festival. Expect
three days of quality board-based antics, great
gear, nosh and essential fluids. If it's anything
like last year it'll be a stunt-filled occasion,
with added chillability.
The superb 'Big Air' jump
is back for another coating in the perma-snow that
adds a bit of winter authenticity to the slope action.
The top
team riders will be whizzing up and down,
in competition, as well as loads of demo
riders on the demo slope. If you've never set foot
on a
snowboard, now's your chance
to give it a go on the formally titled 'public trial
slope'.
A good sound system is always a prominent feature
at Board-X. Among the confirmed DJs this year are:
DJ
Skitz, Lexi Love, Daddy Rich, Rolo and DJ
Shuff. It's this attention to ambient detail that
has made the Board-X festival an international snowboard
event. That's pretty good for a country that doesn't
actually have a lot of good snowboarding locations.
The line-up champing at the
bit to board their way to victory includes previous
winners (like Travis Parker), the reigning Olympic
gold medallist (Gian
Simmen) and a plethora of powder teams,
including: Burton,
Santa Cruz, Vans and Airwalk. The talismanic rider
Jason
Brown will also be there, not just to ride,
but to launch a new range of snowboarding togs (not
off the slope, obviously!).
New additions to this year's festivities include
a demo of New School skiers, an extreme interpretation
of skiing that has yet to gain much exposure in
the UK. Needless to say, these nutaahs
do things on skis that you wouldn't do on a trampoline.
Board-X tickets cost £5 for
Friday 10 November, £8 if pre-booked on their ticket
and information line (020 7729 8424) or £10 on the
gate. The opening times are 12pm-8pm on Friday and
10am-8pm on Saturday 11 November and Sunday 12 November.
See you in Battersea Park, south west London, on
any or all of these bombastic board days!
