Dan's story
'I was very nervous when I arrived, not least because I was first there and the bar of the Circus restaurant was very plush and very full. Further worries centred on vague memories of extremely horny teachers at school, some of whom received my unwanted attention in the form of my first, and some would say sexual appetite-forming, crushes.
When
Jackie arrived, I thought she was very attractive
and a lot classier than anybody I'd previously dated.
For some reason, the name 'Mrs Robinson' sprang
to mind, although all mention of The Graduate
ended there.
As a sceptic, I would have preferred not to have known of Jackie's psychic vocation. But expecting her to be analysing me all the time is a bit like going to a restaurant with a brickie and constantly suspecting them of mixing concrete and laying bricks under the table. It's her job and Jackie soon exploded my ridiculous perception, along with a portion of my scepticism.
After a couple of drinks our table was ready and we transferred to the restaurant. Previous relationship discussion was avoided, as we stuck to contemporary issues. This is always a bit dodgy on a date and Jackie revealed herself as a supporter of the Conservative party. I'm not, but this was the only subject we disagreed on during the whole date and politics isn't a very sexy topic any way!
The food was very good but wasn't used as a convenient method to break uncomfortable silences, as there weren't any. Eye contact was getting more and more flirtatious as the evening drew to a close and I wondered whether to plan a course of 'action' and then realised that I was at school again.
After
walking Jackie back to her nearby flat and a moment's
awkwardness on the doorstep, I managed to swallow
cliched coffee requests and caught a cab home. It
was a cracking evening and I intend to ask Jackie
out again. I also think that it goes to show that
any age gaps disappear once you engage with the
personality, then you know if you really fancy someone.'
