Campus Life
There are approximately 4,000 students enrolled
at the university. International students representing
more than ninety countries constitute 20 percent
of the university's population. There are more
than 103 clubs and organizations, including many
for individual international groups. The campus
is in a safe and quiet residential area. It is
a lush tropical setting with a majority of activities
geared towards the outdoors. On-campus housing
is available all three semesters in residence
halls and apartments. Direct Internet connection
is available in individual rooms. Extensive computer
facilities, library holdings, and the outstanding
faculty are readily accessible to all students.
Interactions with students in different majors
and from different cultures are encouraged, as
are faculty and alumni interactions.
Area and Climate
Florida Institute of Technology is located in
Melbourne, Florida, a residential community on
the Space Coast of Florida. The community is home
to many high-tech companies that serve and support
industries for the space program. Melbourne, home
to approximately 60,000 residents, is on the east
coast of Florida, approximately 62 miles (100
kilometers) from Orlando and 168 miles (270 kilometers)
from Miami. The Kennedy Space Center is 1 hour
north, and the tourist attractions of Disney/EPCOT/MGM,
Sea World, and Universal Studios are 90 minutes
west of the university. The climate is usually
warm, sunny, and humid with an average temperature
of 75°F (24°C).
