The University of Missouri-Kansas
City is a public research institution and a member
of the National Association of State Universities
and Land Grant Colleges (fewer than 2 percent
of colleges or universities in the U.S. hold that
ranking). UMKC is accredited by the major college
accrediting bodies of the U.S., including the
North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
UMKC's mission is to provide teaching, research,
and service. Its academic units and specific accreditations
include the College of Arts and Sciences; Henry
W. Bloch School of Business and Public Administration
(AACSB International-The Association to Advance
Collegiate Schools of Business); School of Biological
Sciences; the Schools of Education (NCATE), Dentistry
(ADA), Law (ABA/AALS), Nursing (NLNAC), and Pharmacy
(AACP/ACPE); the Conservatory of Music (NASM/NCAT);
and the School of Interdisciplinary Computing
and Engineering (ABET). UMKC is a selective institution
in its admission criteria. More than 79 percent
of the full-time faculty members have a doctoral
degree or the highest degree in their field.
