| Love/hate Eminem? To some he's the
most contemporary, astute pop star in the world; to others he's just a little
shit. And now he's releasing a Christmas single!
Lifting a lilting vocal line from the Beth Orton-like Dido, the record plays out
the stream of consciousness of a besotted nutcase fan. He starts nice, then gets
nasty as he drink-drives his pregnant girlfriend into oblivion.
As far as Christmas singles go, it's not exactly Les Gray with a dummy on his
lap, but it can't all be goodwill and cheer at this time of year. Even murder
ballads need to be loved at Christmas, and with the usual Dr Dre-influenced obligatto
bass line and beat and the Eminem delivery this is excellent stuff. Trailer-trash
Christmas never sounded so good.
