The presence of Go's Breckin Meyer and American Pie's Sean
William Scott promises more than Road Trip actually
delivers, but this is nonetheless a fine and funny
addition to the gross-out genre and tons better
than Me, Myself & Irene.
It packs its streamline 90 minutes with sperm
gags, gratuitous breast shots, fart jokes and
farcical comedy, not to mention a classic riff
about balls, peanut butter and a hungry dog that's
worth the admission price alone.
Meyer headlines as college boy Josh, who mistakenly mails
a porny videotape to his girlfriend and has to drive
1800 miles from New York to
Texas to try and intercept it basically because
it features close-up footage of him shagging another
girl. He takes a few mates along for the raucous
ride, including Scott as a gobby jock and newcomer
DJ Qualls as a nervy nerd who predictably but hilariously
discovers the joys of sex with the fattest person
this side of Jabba The Hutt.
Their cross-country antics
are always amusing and often hilarious, especially
the bit where their car gets totalled and a cringe-inducing
sequence where Scott discovers the joys of rear
entry prostate stimulation.
But it's narrator , Tom Green aka Drew Barrymore's other half, who gets the biggest laugh when he's required to swallow a mouse that is clearly alive. Inspired lunacy like this makes the film a movie journey well worth taking.
