curry - blind date - lifebyte

Then Julie's phone rang – it was her mate getting the juice on how things were going. As she'd had a few, Jules went and revealed to Ross that she and her friend had devised a secret code. 'Red snapper' was the phrase to indicate that things were 'going swimmingly'; and 'trout' meant it was 'dead in the water'. Two problems here, Jules – they don't serve fish in an Indian restaurant and a code doesn't stay too secret when you tell someone about it.

Ross went to the boys' room and Jules proceeded to make pals with the middle-aged couple on the next table. Ross joined in on his return and the four of them looked so cosy I thought they were about to go on to a club together.

Well by now it was about time for Mel and I to make our excuses and leave, in true tabloid journo style. As I settled the bill, said goodbye and handed over yet more cash for drinks and a cab home for the lay-dee, the two of them looked well ensconced and announced they were going on somewhere. 'Up West,' answered Ross when I enquired about their destination. And I thought people only said that on EastEnders.

Well-oiled by now, Julie giggled 'Didn't Ross go out with a Julie on Friends?' Er, yes, he did, she was that Chinese girl who Rachel hated and it all went pear-shaped, actually. So let's not go there, as Monica would say.

Back home languishing on my bed watching the Big Bro nominations, I couldn't keep the naughty thought from my mind that perhaps the first lifebyte Blind Shag could be going on at that very instant. They really looked that into each other. So as you can imagine, it was straight on the phone the next morning to find out if the Ross/Julie thang was a case of Vindaloo-hot hot hot, Madras-medium or boring-schmoring milder-than-a-very-mild Korma.
